Information for Patients August 2020
The Government recommends that people in whom flu can be a more serious illness should have a free flu vaccine available from the NHS every year. This year the flu vaccine is being offered to:
- adults 65 and over
- people with certain medical conditions (“at-risk”)
- pregnant women
- people living with someone who’s at high risk from coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list)
- children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2020
- children in primary school
- children in year 7 (secondary school)
- frontline health or social care workers
Later in the year, the flu vaccine may be given to people aged 50 to 64. More information will be available later in the autumn. However, if you’re aged 50 to 64 and in an at-risk group, you should not delay having your flu vaccine.
The staff at Linden Medical Group are currently working hard to plan the delivery of this year’s flu vaccination clinics at the Practice, which will start from late September 2020. We aim to enable those patients in the groups above to safely receive their flu vaccines. This year, in addition to the standard infection control measures required to maintain patient safety, we are also ensuring social distancing is possible and the use of PPE to continue to keep the practice COVID secure while delivering the flu vaccines.
For further information on the flu vaccine, please see NHS: Flu Vaccine.
Further information about the timing of the flu vaccination clinics and the way you can book appointments will be available to patients very soon.
