Patient rights and responsibilities

The care of your health is a partnership between yourself and the practice. The success of that partnership depends on an understanding of each other’s needs and cooperation between us. The partners, staff, and other members of the team work hard to provide the best service we can to our patients, but we accept we sometimes get things wrong.

Your Rights as a Patient

As a patient, you have the right to:

  • Access to Health Services: Receive NHS services free of charge, regardless of your background or circumstances.
  • Quality Care: Be treated with professional standards by qualified and experienced staff.
  • Informed Decisions: Be given information about your condition, treatment options, and the risks and benefits involved.
  • Respect and Dignity: Be treated with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality: Expect that your personal health information will be kept confidential.
  • Complaints and Feedback: Make a complaint if you are unhappy with the care, you receive and have it acknowledged and investigated promptly.

Your Responsibilities as a Patient

To help us provide the best possible care, we ask that you:

  • Respect Our Staff: Treat NHS staff and other patients with respect and courtesy.
  • Keep Appointments: Attend your scheduled appointments or cancel them in good time if you cannot attend.
  • Provide Feedback: Let us know if we have not met our responsibility to you, or if we have exceeded your expectations. Your feedback helps us improve our services.
  • Follow Medical Advice: Follow the medical advice and treatment plans provided by your healthcare professionals.
  • Update Information: Ensure that your contact details and medical information are up to date.

Working Together

We aim to treat our patients courteously at all times and expect our patients to treat our staff in a similarly respectful way. It is important that you contact us in good time if you cannot attend a pre-arranged appointment with us.
